Ah, and so we come to my favorite kind of betting. My best NFL betting moment came in 2002’s big game. I hated the Rams for many reasons and I hated Kurt Warner for others. I took a giant risk and placed a bet on the New England Patriots to beat the Rams. I didn’t make this decision without any research, mind you, but at this point all that matters is that I won.

Sure, I made this bet in Vegas and not online, but I still have to share the moment. I did do my research online. Instead of listening without questions to all those who insisted the Rams were unstoppable, I went online. I went to my favorite online sportsbooks and read the lines. I read columns and I saw what others didn’t see. I went to Vegas and placed my bet and won. I’ve never seen a more quiet sports book in my life.
You can get pretty crazy with NFL betting. The more serious you are, the more likely you are to put down some exotic wagers. Parlays are fun and teasers can be great. Betting on the NFL makes games more interesting. The thing about being able to do some online sports betting is that you can place your bets and then go off to Hooters with some pals and watch the games. The beer and wings are just that much greater when you know you’re winning money on a game you’re watching.
+ = Underdog
I may sound like a broken record, but start small and safe if you’ve never done this before. Betting the NFL can seem really easy – and it can be. Even so, I’ve known too many people who make silly mistakes like betting on the underdog when they didn’t mean to – they thought the plus sign meant the team was favored.
